Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 7 Air Storm Fans Assembly 1. Remove packaging from fan and cone if applicable. • Locate hardware kit(s) and supplied literature and store for later use. • Ensure not to damage the fan or components during this step. Cut a Treated Lumber 2”x4” to 60” Length. Attach to the exterior of the building with the top of the 2’x4” 30 Inches above the center of the rough opening, and centered below the rough opening horizontally. Provided treated lumber is used the 2”x4” may be left in place after operation, alternatively after all lag bolts are installed the 2”x4” may be removed.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 8 Air Storm Fans 2. The butterfly assembly comes pre-installed onto housing. Inspect orientation of butterfly Correct orientation of the butterfly is critical to correct operation. This side up decal should indicate orientation. If decal is absent orientation can be determined by location of bolt on vertical upright of butterfly. It should be oriented toward the top of the fan. 3. This step require (2) installers. Place bottom of fan assembly onto the top of the 2”x4”, rotate until fan interior face of fan mates with the wall then secure using sheet metal screws (805060) the outer hole pattern is for the large rough opening, inner hole pattern for small rough opening.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 9 Air Storm Fans After the fan is mounted to the wall verify that the prop hub is flush with end of the motor shaft and motor is mounted as far forward as possible. Spin prop by hand and ensure correct prop clearance. At this time also inspect tightness of fit of the butterfly to the orifice. OI The following step is optional. If desired, the butterfly assembly may be removed and included sponge gasket can be installed around the outermost circumference of the orifice and the butterfly assembly reinstalled. IF COMPLETED ENSURE CORRECT ORIENTATION OF THE BUTTEFLY FROM STEP 2. 4. From inside the house, the butterfly springs are attached to the butterfly doors using hardware for bag number 13. There are 2 sets of predrilled holes in each butterfly door. Insert bolt as shown below though closest hole to center upright and secure with washer and lock nut. Attach both springs to center upright bolt and secure with lock nut, then attach opposite ends of springs to bolt that was added to the door again securing with a lock nut. 5. Assemble cone. This step requires (2) installers. Begin by placing one cone panel on the ground with the end with connection slots slightly elevated. Insert the connection tabs into the connection slots and rotate to parallel. Continue for all 4 panels.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 10 Air Storm Fans 6. Connect cone panels to form round shape. This step requires (2) installers. Stand the cone upright with the larger diameter on the ground and force the cone to bend to allow the final connection tabs to insert into the remaining connection slots. Secure round connections with 5/16”-18 X 3/4” hex bolts, 5/16” flat washers, and 5/16”-18 serrated nuts leaving the slots closet to the larger diameter open at this time. A washer should be used on the inside and outside of each connection. BOLT HEADS SHOULD BE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CONE! Loosen bolts securing butterfly assembly prior to installing the cone. Using 2 people lift the cone and butterfly assembly and slide OVER THE BUTTERFLY BUT UNDER THE MOUNTING BRACKET! Push onto the assembly until slots bottom out on the mounting bolts. Twist cone to lock into place then completely tighten lock nuts to secure.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 11 Air Storm Fans 7. Drill a ¼” hole at the 12 o’clock position in the cone assembly at the butterfly ring to the exit side of the fan. Then insert end of supplied stainless steel cable through hole at the 12 o’clock position just before the butterfly, secure end above cone with supplied cable clamp. Using (4) of the supplied zip ties, secure the two exit guards together to form a circular cone guard. Put one zip tie at the very top and one at the very bottom of the guard. Evenly space two additional zip ties.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 12 Air Storm Fans 8. Insert grill guard into cone and secure each connection with a 5/16”-18 X 1” hex bolt, (2) 5/16” flat washers, and a 5/16”-18 serrated flange nut. The top and bottom bolts should protrude through both eyelets. Loosely secure bottom connection until next step. 9. Pull stainless steel cable until tight and having it exit at the 6 o’clock position of the cone. Wrap stainless steel cable around bolt twice and tighten to secure. Cable should be tight but should not be applying force to the assembly.

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA January 2025 13 Air Storm Fans Secure remaining fasteners to finish grill guard installation. This step is optional. If an on center spacing distance of 72” or greater was chosen move to page 13. In the event on center spacing of less than 72” was chosen cone panels can be deformed and bolted to each other provide uniform airflow and to eliminate opposing vibration. Exit guards should be modified accordingly to still provide maximum protection. From the interior of the house assemble interior guard as shown with supplied zip ties. (8) total zip ties should be used securing all 8 corners. 10. Mount cup hooks to support interior guard. 4 should be used across the top capturing the corners with 2 supports in the middle. The remaining 2 should be located on the bottom right and bottom left corners to secure the interior guard. Depending on spacing chosen for fans slight, modifications may have to be made to the mounting of the interior guard. THIS COMPLETES THE HOUSING ASSEMBLY OF THE FAN
