GrowerSELECT - HSES-RA Round Style Evaporative Cooling System Installation Manual

Hog Slat Inc. Newton Grove, NC USA March 2022 21 Evaporative Cooling System Evaporative Media Document Proper design, installation, and maintenance are critical in maximizing the life of your new cool cell pads. Please follow the below recommendations. DESIGN A MAXIMUM permissible airflow velocity of 400 feet per minute measured at the pad should be strictly adhered to. Velocities exceeding 400 feet per minute can lead to pad warpage and the decrease of pad life. INSTALLATION The orientation of each cool cell pad is marked on the side of each cool cell pad. Along with the vertical orientation it is critical that the black edge guard faces the exterior of the building. During installation the water level and setting of the float valve should be inspected. The water level should be roughly 1 inch below the trough cover. If level is incorrect adjust float. COOL CELL PADS SHOULD NEVER BE SUBJECTED TO STANDING WATER AT THE BASE OF THE PADS! During normal operation the cool cell pads should be allowed to fully dry daily. After turning off the cool cell pump allow tunnel fans to run for additional 30 minutes to complete the drying process. MAINTENANCE During operation the pH of the cool cell system should be between 6 and 8.5. pH should be monitored (at least initially) on a weekly basis to determine schedule for flushing the system. Once the pH reaches 8.5, the system should be allowed to drain then refilled with fresh water. The monitoring of pH and routine flushing of the system helps to reduce mineral build up in the pads as well as the water reservoirs. Below are min/max levels used to qualify acceptable water quality. Cleaning of cool cell pads can help to extend the pad life. The following is a list of recommended algaecides and descalers that can be used to clean the systems.
